Between 1990 and 1997, I served as an active service firefighter and ambulance crew chief, specializing in vehicle entrapment rescue alongside a full time job. Over the course of more than 3,500 emergency incidents, I learned that in the midst of chaos, the most valuable asset you can possess is a calm, decisive presence.

While my environment shifted from emergency scenes to global technology and data firms, the fundamental challenge remained the same; how to lead with integrity when the pressure is on. With over 40 years of breakthrough performance (20 years in sales and 20 more in Governance, Risk & Compliance - GRC), I have navigated complex business "emergencies" that demand the same level of precision and composure.

As a Chief Risk Officer, I led 750 employees through the unique challenges of both the London Olympics and the global Coronavirus pandemic. Whether it was managing multi-disciplinary responses to critical data breaches or building international GRC cultures from a zero base, I discovered that a "commercial mindset" and a commitment to ethics are not mutually exclusive - they are the engines of optimal outcomes.

I believe that leadership isn't just for those at the top; it is a posture you develop throughout your career. My own journey saw me rise from entry-level positions to becoming a regular advisor to board-level executives and member of the CEO’s Executive Management Team.
